Audi Hungaria Motor Ltd. – location

Ideal Site for the Production of Quality

The AUDI AG may rely in Győr on a wide range of highly educated professionals. The company provides attracting working places for the students finishing the “Széchenyi István” University of Győr, as well. The AUDI AG bought an industrial land with full communal work supply and a semi-finished production hall with 100.000 square metre area from the company “Rába Magyar Vagon- és Gépgyár” in 1993. During the last 10 years, the plant area used till 1 May 2004 (the date of joining Hungary to EU) as duty free zone has grown up to more than 1.000.000 m2 and now fulfils the purpose of flexible delivery of engines and different engine components.

High-Tech Engines from Győr

Engine plant of the AUDI AG was opened in Hungary in October 1994. Through this new plant in Győr, not only international competitiveness was achieved but an important site with determinative strategic significance was established in Hungary, with a continuously further growing importance. In our days nearly the full range of the engines required for the Audi cars derives from Győr.

The production started with the assembly of 1.8 litre 4-cylinder-5-valve engines, manufactured both in suction and turbo variants. Since 1998 even six-cylinder engines are also manufactured in Győr, with different cylinder capacities from 2.4 through 2.8 and 3.0 up to 3.2 litres. End of 1997 was the starting date of the series production of 8-cylinder engines at the AUDI Hungaria Motor Kft. But Győr is the manufacturing site for the 4-cylinder Diesel-engines with fuel nozzle and direct injection technique, as well. In 1999 the Number One Million engine was finished in Győr. This growth has been continued for the next years, too, in 2006 a total of 1.893.600 engines was produced for the cars of the Audi and Volkswagen Concern. Since the beginning of the series production in 1994, it was the No. Ten Million Engine that left the manufacturing lines in June 2005.

In 2002, engine manufacturing was widened with the FSI (i. e. direct injection) type engines and now the high r.p.m. (the so-called high speed) 8-cylinder FSI-engines with a cylinder capacity of 4.2 litres are manufactured here in Győr. Audi features a highly efficient but astonishingly simple valve control technology- the innovative Audi valvelift system.

In April 2006 started the series production of the 10-cylinder-engines. At the AUDI Hungaria Motor Kft. there are 22 basic engines types manufactured in a variety totalling 372 variants from 4-, 6- and 8-cylinder engines.

Widening of production depth is continuously aimed to achieve at the AUDI Hungaria Motor Kft. and as a result of this effort, cranks to be built into 4-cylineder Diesel-engines are also manufactured here in Győr from May 2004 on.

Tool Manufacturing Plant

After a series of site examinations concerning Middle and East Europe, the possibility of establishing a new Audi tool manufacturing plant was given in 2005 to the Audi Hungaria Motor Kft.

From the investment of nearly 40 Million EUR a production hall with 18.000 m2 was built. Plant tools required for the pressing plant and car body manufacturing are being produced here. With the maximal thrust of 25,000 kN (kilonewton, unit of force), the high power pressing machines reckon among the technical specialities that can even be equipped with 50-ton tools.

Capacity of the tool manufacturing plant is now 150,000 hours per year, and this figure shall reach till the last phase of the development in 2008 the capacity of 500,000 hours per year. The tool manufacturing plant of Győr shall produce not only tools and equipments but elements of car bodies to be manufactured in small series for certain models, too. Manufacturing of car body elements for one of the top models of the Audi Concern – the car Audi RS4 – has already successfully started. From 2006 engines and bodyparts of Audi R8 have been produced in the tool manufacturing plant of Audi Hungaria.

In the tool manufacturing plant there are 260 employees working in 3 shifts now, and this figure shall be extended in the final development phase up to 320 workers.
